The Silent Consumer War

My reply to the Old Grey Thinker Newsletter.

In order for a consumer economy to exist customers have to be able to afford your products and services. Which was the general mindset of the economy 50 plus years ago.

In today’s economy, corporations are not considerate of the consumers, but strictly for their shareholders.

Corporations don’t care what happens in 10 or 20 years. They care about the next quarter and if their shareholders continue to be shareholders or sell their plummeting stocks.

Corporations in the United States are more egregious. At least on the other side of the pond some corporations recognize that they have a responsibility to the general public. Such as: safe food, and nutrious ingredients. Unfortunately in the United States the only consideration is PROFIT$.

That is why you see some consumers in the United States taking action into their own hands and only choosing to buy goods which are good for you.

Corporations like McDonald’s, the cereal industry, and the over the counter pharmaceutical industry are losing customers. People are starting to realize that good health is often a matter of subtraction and not a matter of addition.

You often to talk about the slow decline well it’s here and corporations need to adjust to changing dynamics or face extinction.

One of the largest industries in the United States is the energy sector. Electric vehicles are becoming more popular in cities and suburbs but very unpopular and the more rural regions of the country for obvious reasons namely a lack of work vehicles and the fact that one cannot carry an extra 10 gallon tank of electricity in the back of their work vehicle.

But the automakers are kowtowing to the oil industry which knows it’s days are numbered, not completely but drastically. Many of the leaders of these industries are unfortunately our age, they are unable to read the proverbial room.

They are desperately trying to find a means to sell eight tracks and cassette players newer generations that neither have a use or an interest in archaic technologies.

The average consumer is only seen as a means to generate profit and there well-being is not even a slight consideration.

In the United States, there is a quiet movement amongst consumers called the “ buy nothing“ movement and I am amongst those individuals. My Volkswagen is a 2009 and the engine is in perfect condition. I have no plans to move to a bigger place and I only buy what I need to live simply and healthfully.

Corporations are not selling needful things, they are selling shiny objects and endorphin spikes. People are starting to see through the mesmerist’s petty tricks which is leading them to petty tactics in the utilization of petty characters to accomplish what they cannot accomplish naturally.
